If you’ve owned boats before or have boating friends, I’m sure you’ll be familiar with the concept of “4-foot-itis”…
It’s one of many terrible afflictions that us boating types suffer from. It means that your perfect boat is always around 3 or 4 foot longer than your current boat. And therefore, often tantalisingly out of reach.
After you’ve bought a boat and lived it with for a year or two, you usually end up wanting something just that little bit bigger… with a bit more seating in cockpit, a bit more room in the cabin, a bit more space in the heads, something that will handle a bit better in choppy water, etc, etc.
It’s why most owner’s of 17ft bowriders would love a 20ft cuddy, and then when they get that, it’s a 24ft sportscruiser that they’re after, and then a 28ft cruiser, and so on and so forth.
It’s a law of nature. And there’s nothing you can do about it.
Unless…
Maybe, you could skip a step.
You see most entry level sportscruisers are around the 24 or 25ft mark. They have 4 berths, a separate heads compartment, a proper little galley and usually room for 5 or 6 people in the cockpit. And they’re great. An excellent way to begin the sports cruising lifestyle.
But, if you use your boat a lot and particularly if you spend a lot of nights on board, a 24ft boat can quickly start to feel small and you could be overcome with a bout of the dreaded “4-foot-itis”…
That’s where this Larson 274 could solve all your problems.
It is still basically an entry level sports cruiser – it has 4 berths in 2 cabins, it has a separate heads and shower compartment, it has a proper galley, and you can put it on a trailer and tow it on the road.
But.
At 28ft it’s 4 feet longer than your standard entry level sportscruiser. So that means you get loads of extra space throughout the boat, but especially in the cockpit. It has more head and elbow room in the cabins, it has a larger aft cabin, it has a bigger heads compartment. There’s a larger integrated swim platform than normal. There’s room in the cockpit for a nice little wet bar and there’s tons of seating for up to 10 passengers – which is 2 to 3 more than most entry level cruisers.
So, you get an entry level cruiser that’s much closer in size and feel to a 30 footer, but still has the same characteristics and ease of use, and (the best part!) price, of a high-end entry level cruiser.
So you can jump into a super smart entry level sportcruiser and avoid catching 4-foot-itis!
Have a look at our full length video tour of the boat to find out just how accomplished this Larson 274 is.
This particular example benefits from having the Mercruiser 5.0L MPI fuel injected sterndrive motor with Bravo 3 twin prop drive. It’s also seen very little use and has only ever been kept in fresh water. It’s a stunning boat in lovely condition.
If you’re considering a sports cruiser, but want to get something just a bit bigger than the standard entry level – say something like a Maxum 2700, Rinker 270, Rinker 280, Glastron 279, Regal 2665 or a Doral Monticello – then this Larson 274 is well worth considering.
