A friend of mine keeps me going about all our boat reviews on YouTube and my gushing video commentaries.
‘Where do you find these boats?‘ He says. ‘You haven’t seen a bad one yet!‘
The not-too-thinly-disguised inference is that I’m somehow ‘sugar coating’ the presentations. You see my pal John has been around his fair share of boats and he knows all too well the trouble they can give. And he’s simply flabbergasted that I only ever have great boats to sell…
Of course he doesn’t see what goes on behind the scenes to filter through all the rubbish and bring only the best examples to market.
It’s really all a bit of good humored ribbing. BUT today John’s moment has come…
It turns out that they really all can’t be perfect.
Unfortunately this Sea Ray 335 Sundancer has a problem.
I am most definitely not in the business of ‘sugar coating’ presentations or trying to hide known issues with any of the boats that I sell. So with that in mind I’ll get straight to the point.
This 2005 Sea Ray 335 has a problem with it’s port engine. We discovered this issue very shortly after making the video review of the boat; hence why there is no mention of it in the video.
The problem is low oil pressure on the port engine and it will most likely require that the engine is removed from the boat to be inspected and repaired.
At the moment the engine in question is starting and running but it is only making around 12psi of oil pressure at idle. This is rising to around 35psi at 2,500RPM (under no load). These numbers are significantly lower than what they should be.
The boat has been out of the water for around a year and this problem was discovered by us upon re-launch. It does require further investigation and repair but the current owner doesn’t have the time or easy access to the expertise required to resolve the issue.
For that reason the boat is being advertised for sale here as is, and the price has been substantially reduced as a consequence.
It is a pity because the boat is otherwise in fantastic order, as shown by our recent video tour (November 2017). The boat is pristinely clean, ironically both engines (port one included) are starting on the button and idling smoothly. The onboard generator is running well and all of the equipment on board is in good working order.
She is currently the cheapest advertised example in the UK. She probably has the best spec of any that are available (including a bow thruster, generator, Air conditioning with reverse cycle heating, GPS, radar, Vacuflush toilet, etc, etc). Even taking the engine issue into consideration (with a worst case scenario engine rebuild going to run to around £5,000 or so) I think that she still represents excellent value for money. The owner is keen to sell and will also listen to offers.
This boat, with the current engine issue, obviously isn’t going to be for everyone. But if you are looking for something that’s great value, you don’t mind undertaking a small project, and you know a good diesel mechanic, then this boat is well worth a look.
Viewings are welcome and encouraged. I’m also happy to answer any questions you might have about the boat and the engine issue. Give me a call on 028 7136 8779 and I can talk you through what we know.
